Inter-Milan Derby set to break record as the highest-grossing match in Serie A history

On Sunday, September 22, the match between Inter and Milan, known as the Derby della Madonnina, is poised to make history by breaking the Serie A revenue record, which is currently held by the Inter-Juventus match from October 6, 2019 (6.6 million euros).

If it doesn’t make history, it’s not a derby. And so, after the unforgettable episode that added the second star to Inter’s jersey – be mindful of the numbers in the upcoming chapter.

This is all because on September 22, at 20:45, the Inter-Milan match will take place, and Giuseppe Meazza Stadium will be packed, especially boosting the Nerazzurri’s coffers.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, it’s highly likely that the first derby of this season will become the highest-grossing match in Serie A history.

The Derby della Madonnina is on track to generate around 7 million euros in revenue, surpassing the 6.6 million euro earnings from the Inter-Juventus match, the absolute record in the Italian championship since October 2019.

However, the 7 million euro figure will still fall short of Inter’s record earnings across all competitions.

The Nerazzurri’s record match was the 2023 Champions League semifinal against Milan, where they earned 12.4 million euros, followed by their Round of 16 match last season against Atletico Madrid, which generated 9.2 million euros.
