Cristiano Ronaldo, despite nearing his 40s, shows no intention of slowing down his goal-scoring pace. In his latest match on Tuesday in the Saudi Pro League, he scored twice, bringing his total goals for the past calendar year to 53.
“The captain of Al Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo, becomes the best goal scorer in the world in 2023, reaching 53 against Ittihad today,” wrote the Portuguese club on Twitter.
CR7 has surpassed Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane, who have each scored 52 goals. Erling Haaland, ranked fourth in this list, has scored 50 goals, according to Super Sport.
However, the Norwegian striker is likely to play two more matches in the Premier League in the remaining part of 2023. Manchester City faces Everton on Wednesday and Sheffield United on December 30.
Thus, theoretically, he could surpass the 38-year-old Portuguese if he scores at least four goals, meaning two per match.
