“That’s how football works – lose twice in five days and the world falls apart” – Van Dijk on Liverpool’s painful defeats

Liverpool center-back Virgil van Dijk shared his thoughts after the 2-1 loss to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final.

This defeat came after their painful elimination by PSG in the Champions League, despite having won the first leg.

“We need to turn things around. That’s how football works – we lose twice in five days and the world falls apart,” Van Dijk initially stated.

He went on to highlight the contrast between the current situation and how things looked just two weeks ago:
“Just two weeks ago, everything was bright. Now, we’re out of the Champions League, eliminated from the FA Cup, and we lost this final. We have nine games left, and I don’t think we need any extra motivation to push through and see it out. We are fighting for the biggest prize, the one you’ve worked so hard for since the beginning of the season,” the Dutchman emphasized.

Van Dijk also pointed out that no one expected Liverpool to be in the Premier League title race.

“It’s the hardest trophy to win. There are so many challenges. But there are still plenty of positives and good things ahead. That’s what keeps us pushing day after day,” he said.

Despite their recent losses, Van Dijk and Liverpool remain focused on their season’s objectives, aiming to improve performances and return to their best form in the matches ahead.
