Former Real Coach: Mbappe – Vinicius Duo Is Not Working

Former Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello is not impressed with Kylian Mbappe’s debut season in the Spanish capital.

“Los Blancos,” after years of pursuit, finally completed his transfer in June last summer. The biggest debate that followed was how Carlo Ancelotti would integrate the Frenchman into Real Madrid’s squad, considering that Vinicius Jr. was already there.

Mbappe had always excelled at PSG in a freer role, primarily on the left side of the attack, the same position where Vinicius plays the most.

After an injury-plagued start, Kylian Mbappe has now found his form, with Ancelotti pleased with his performances in attack.

So far, Mbappe has scored 28 goals in 41 matches for Real Madrid this season, while Vinicius has netted 18 times in 37 games.

However, Capello – who won La Liga twice with Real Madrid – believes that the duo have yet to fully complement each other.

“Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. play in the same position; they are interfering with each other,” Capello said in an interview with “Flashscore.”

“As individuals, they can do things that many players cannot in tight spaces, but this is not team harmony,” added the Italian coach.

“Real Madrid has the best attack in the world, but they are facing midfield issues after Toni Kroos’ retirement, as well as injury problems in defense,” Capello concluded.
