Thomas Muller officially decides to retire from the German national team after 14 years filled with successes and failures. The news has been confirmed by number 13 himself through a post on social media.
His last match was the loss against Spain in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024, where Muller was substituted in during the second half. In total, he has played 131 matches for Germany, scoring 45 goals.
His only success with Germany is winning the World Cup in 2014 in Brazil. During that tournament, Muller scored 5 goals, the same number he had scored four years earlier in South Africa, placing him among the top scorers in the tournament’s history.
It is still unknown whether Muller will continue to be part of Bayern Munich in the future, but he has one year left on his current contract. It has been frequently reported in the German media that he is seen by the Bavarian club’s management as a suitable figure to take on a technical role at the club after retiring from playing football.
